If you can drill a hole and cut a fairly straight line with a saw, you can build this in
one afternoon.  Here is a design for a drum riser that is simple to build.
The cost of this project is about $150. Compare that to the cost for most factory built metal units at $400 to $600.  Build your own riser, and if you have any cash left over, buy a new crash cymbal!
